Playing for Change Social Capitalist of the Year 2010

» 2010-07-05 Playing for Change has been appointed Social Capitalist 2010 in the category big businesses of Swedish news magazine Veckans Affärer in collaboration with Sparbankerna. The price was awarded on 5 July in Almedalen.

The Social Capitalist Award is being awarded for the fourth year in a row and ishanded out to a person or organisation which manages to marry good business with social responsibility.

In 2009 Playing for Change started to support social entrepreneurs who work with children’s and adolescent’s right to play. Playing for Change is a collaboration between Kinnevik, Korsnäs, Metro, MTG, Tele2, Transcom, and the Hugo Stenbeck Foundation.

It is the first time in the history of the Kinnevik Group that the companies come together in support of a shared social project. The highly ambitious goal setting has been to contribute to a better society through entrepreneurship and a business mindset.

“We have been working very hard throughout the last year to get the first Swedish incubator in support of the social entrepreneurs going – we are proud and happy about being awarded this price. It is the ambition of Playing for Change to be part of creating a better and more playful world for children and adolescents. That is why we invest in social entrepreneurs, so that they get the chance to develop their ideas which have the potential to positively change the world”, says Sara Damber COO of the Hugo Stenbeck Foundation.

Playing for Change supports eight selected entrepreneurs who will receive one to three years salary and the professional support and advice of the Kinnevik Group to realize their ideas.

Playing for Change is present with its Playmakers/ social entrepreneurs at Almedalen during the entire week. One of them, Viktor Brobacke (Klubb Killers, Tangopalatsi, Barnens Underjordiska Scen) and his Ceféz are present in Visby harbour Tuesday and Wednesday 12-4 pm.
