Why Play?
Playing for change supports social entrepreneurs who make a better life for children and young people. Our vision is a world where all children can play freely, a world where all barriers to play are removed. To fulfill that vision we must focus on all rights for children that are contained in the United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child.
So, why is our vision a world where children can play freely? Because children and young people who play have fun, but playing also gives them opportunity to develop as independent, creative, emphatic and enterprising citizens of the world.
Playing has been described as the forgotten right. This right is enshrined in Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child—the most universally adopted international treaty in history. The right to play may seem natural but millions of children are denied it. But children who are vulnerable, living in poverty, war-torn countries or disaster areas have the same right to play as other children. Playing can actually be the key to change, even in the most difficult situations.
